Yet another reason not to syringe ears…

Ear wax is another aspect of the body’s first line of defence; it contains fatty acids which kill bacteria attempting to enter the body. Irrigating not only increases the likelihood of water-borne infection (such as pseudomonas) post-irrigation, but also removes the ear’s natural defence against it.
