The Sceptre Departs…

In AD 7, Caponius, procurator of Judea revoked the Sanhedrin’s power to administer the death penalty. This led them to believe that God’s word had been broken, and so they went around Jerusalem wailing.’ Woe to us for the sceptre has departed from Israel and the Messiah hasn’t come.’ This relates to Jacob’s prophecy in Genesis 49:10, that the Messiah would arrive before the sceptre (rule) departed from Judah.
